Pick the host carefully

The host is more than the lobby creator: their copy of the game keeps the group’s progress. Choose the person who is most likely to be available whenever the group wants to continue.

Crossplay does not change this rule. A player on another supported platform can join, but does not become a second owner of the save.

How to continue a saved walk

  1. The original host launches Big Walk and selects the group’s saved journey.
  2. The host starts the session.
  3. Other players join through their friend list or the new Join Code.
  4. Continue from the host’s recorded progress.

Because a new Join Code is generated when the host starts a session, share the current code instead of reusing the one from last time.

What happens when the host leaves

When the host stops, everyone else is disconnected. The official FAQ does not document host migration, so plan the end of a session together instead of expecting the world to stay open under another player.

Practical habits for a regular group

  • Keep a simple note naming the host and chosen world size.
  • Let the host quit normally after the group finishes an activity.
  • Confirm the host is opening the right journey before entering a fresh Join Code.
  • If the regular host will be unavailable, start a separate world rather than assuming progress can move.

What is not officially documented

The public FAQ confirms automatic host-owned saving but does not explain save-file locations, manual backups, platform-cloud conflict recovery, or save transfer between hosts. This page does not guess at those procedures. For a damaged or missing save, contact official support at help@bigwalk.game and include the platform and approximate last successful session time.
